Mujin, Inc. (Exited)
COMPANY PROFILE
Comprehensive manufacturer of intelligent industrial robot controllers
Mujin, Inc. was founded in 2011 in Tokyo, Japan by a world-renowned roboticist, Dr. Rosen Diankov, the main contributor to the widely used robot manipulation planning platform OpenRAVE.
Dr. Diankov and the team at Mujin have been focused on developing a world-class open-source software for programming autonomous multi-joint robots for the past few years, and they have now progressed to target robot makers, robot users, and research institutions around the world.
Mujin’s main target is Factory Automation (FA) using industrial robots, that could be applied to many fields. There is an ever-increasing demand for industrial robots in factories. However, the existing robotic system integration is time-consuming and requires special skills, and hence poses a significant obstacle to industrial automation. Mujin provides a wide range of solutions, from stand-alone to fully integrated services. Mujin strives to help robot system integrators to work more effectively, shorten development and deployment cycle, and increase overall manufacturing performance.
Mujin's mission is to accomplish -Industrial Robots for Everyone- since improving access to industrial robots is key to promote Factory Automation and increase worldwide manufacturing productivity.
Key manufacturing markets include:
・Food & Medical
・Electronics
・Automobile
・Logistics

COMPANY STORY
Origin
Dr. Rosen (CTO) has a doctorate from Carnegie Mellon and was formerly a postdoctoral fellow at The University of Tokyo JSK. He is a pioneer in the development of robot motion planning technology for industrial use. Dr. Rosen joined hands with Mr. Takino (CEO) to co-found Mujin and develop intelligent robot controllers for industrial robots.
Strength
Dr. Rosen is also widely known as the founder of the open-source robot motion planning software (OpenRAVAE), and Mr. Takino has a deep understanding about the gaps in manufacturing industry. Mujin develops and sells level-playing intelligent robot controller technology that combines world-class robot motion planning technology, advanced parallel distributed processing, and 3D recognition technology. Mujin’s services are widely used in the production site of automobile and logistics industries, enabling robotic automation. This approach aims to solve the problem of labor shortage and to drastically improve labor productivity.
UTEC’s value add
UTEC contributed to the company-formation, and partnered with Mujin at the seed stage.
Along with financial support, UTEC introduced key customers, Go-to-market partners, and offered hands-on support ranging from company management to risk mitigation.
