COMPANY PROFILE

Engineering a world with no concept of charging, through proprietary in-motion wireless charging technology

Power Wave is a startup tackling the charging problem, a key bottleneck for next-generation mobility, through its proprietary dynamic in-motion wireless power transfer technology. The company develops products based on the electric field coupling method, which uses electrode plates instead of coils. Compared with the conventional magnetic field coupling method, this approach is more resistant to positional misalignment, generates less heat, and allows for thinner power transfer components. As factories and logistics sites increasingly automate operations using AGVs (automated guided vehicles) and AMRs (autonomous mobile robots), Power Wave enables these machines to keep running without stopping to charge, driving labor savings and higher productivity.

COMPANY STORY

Origin

Power Wave's core technology originates from the Ohira Lab. of Toyohashi University of Technology, which has advanced electric field coupling wireless power transfer research since 2007. To advance the real-world implementation of this technology, CTO Shinji Abe, then a researcher at the laboratory, and CEO Kento Oida, who brings experience in banking and entrepreneurship, co-founded the company in March 2021.

Strength

Power Wave realizes dynamic in-motion wireless power transfer through the electric field coupling method, which uses electrode plates instead of coils. This combines four strengths: (1) power delivery even while equipment is moving or operating, (2) robustness against positional misalignment and distance variation, (3) low heat generation, and (4) thin, low-cost electrodes made from aluminum plates.
