COMPANY PROFILE

A Silicon Valley VC accelerating the real-world deployment of HardTech

Matter Venture Partners (MVP) is a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm founded in 2023. Founder Wen Hsieh spent 17 years at Kleiner Perkins (KPCB), one of Silicon Valley's most revered venture firms, rising from Associate to Managing Partner—the only investment professional in the firm's history to do so—and led HardTech investments including DJI, LuxVue (acquired by Apple), and Bloom Energy. Committed to "taking the hard out of HardTech," MVP invests primarily at Series A in semiconductors, robotics, AI, physical AI, energy, space, and advanced manufacturing. Drawing on deep operating experience and a network of strategic LPs that includes leading semiconductor and manufacturing companies, MVP provides hands-on support spanning early customer acquisition, supply chain and manufacturing scale-up, and business model building. MVP is headquartered in Silicon Valley, with presence in Los Angeles, Taiwan, and Japan.

COMPANY STORY

Origin

Founded in January 2023 by Wen Hsieh, who led HardTech investing at KPCB, on the conviction that society's biggest innovations are born from HardTech—the fusion of hardware and software.

Strength

Hands-on support built on some two decades of experience as an investor, founder, and operator. MVP accelerates the commercialization and scale-up of HardTech through early customer introductions and manufacturing/supply chain partnerships with its strategic LPs.

UTEC’s value add

UTEC has invested in MVP as an LP through UTEC Fund 6. The partnership bridges Japan's science- and technology-based startups with the HardTech ecosystems of the US and Taiwan, driving collaboration in co-investment, global expansion, talent, and customer networks.
