COMPANY PROFILE
Epigenetic medicines for intractable blood disorders
EpiFrontier is a biotech company advancing oral therapies for beta-globin disorders, powered by epigenetic drug discovery science from RIKEN and Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences.
Our lead candidate, EPF-001, is an oral, selective G9a inhibitor that raises fetal hemoglobin to address the root cause of sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia.
Boosting fetal hemoglobin is a clinically validated way to modify these diseases, and in preclinical studies EPF-001 has shown potentially best-in-class fetal hemoglobin induction with a clean safety and pharmacokinetic profile. Where today's options fall short—inconsistent efficacy, or the cost and complexity of cell and gene therapies—EPF-001 is designed to do better, with the goal of bringing effective treatment within reach of patients everywhere.

COMPANY STORY
Origin
EPF-001 originated from research at RIKEN and Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences. Through a screening of approximately 140,000 compounds, molecular design based on X-ray crystallography, and the synthesis and evaluation of more than 1,000 compounds, EPF-001 was identified and is now positioned as EpiFrontier's lead pipeline.
Strength
Elevating fetal hemoglobin is an established disease-modifying strategy for beta-globin disorders. As an oral selective G9a inhibitor, EPF-001 strongly induces HbF in human cells and in multiple preclinical models while showing a favorable safety profile, making it a promising best-in-class candidate.
